Day 11 of our trip was a safari in Katavi National Park.
We started in the morning by driving near the Sitalike Headquarters. The drive bordered the Katavi Plans, providing views of wildlife herds.

Wildlife viewed included: Waterbuck (Kuru), Zebra (Punda milia), Vervet monkey (Tumbili / Ngedere), Pelican, Hippopotamus (Kiboko), Duck, Egret, Lapet-faced Vulture, Spotted Hyena (Fisi / Nyangao), Buffalo (Mbogo / Nyati), Giraffe (Twiga), Impala (Swala Pala).
Other sites of the morning included ‘The Spiritual Tree of Katabi’, Sausage Trees, Hyenas and Vultures picking on a Buffalo carcass, Hippos grazing in the open.
After lunch, we drove along the Katuma River ending at the Hippo Pool of Ikuu.
The first part of the drive was beside wide open plains where a groups of Zebra, Giraffe, Warthog and a Hippo were at a small water pool. Next we viewed a couple of Elephant grazing on palm leaves. Following the river we observed groups of Giraffe, Elephant, Hippo, Lion, Crocodile, Gazelle, Waterbuck, and Monkeys.
The highlight of the afternoon was a pride of eight lions resting on the river bank. The final stop was to view over 300 Hippos in the mud pool at Ikuu.

These are awesome pictures! Just like in the movies. How cool to really be there. I didn’t realize the giraffe’s were so much taller than the zebras. What’s hanging in the trees (gourd looking things)? Love the lions also!Love them all really. Excellent photography!
